2. Data We Collect

Votello is designed with data minimization in mind:

• No user accounts. We do not require registration, email, or personal identification.
• No personal data stored server-side. Scan history is stored exclusively on your device (local storage) and is never transmitted to our servers.
• Barcode queries. When you scan a product, the barcode number is sent to our server to retrieve product information. Barcodes are not personally identifiable.
• Purchase validation (if applicable). If you subscribe via Google Play, we receive a purchase token from Google to validate your subscription. We do not receive your name, email, or payment details.

3. Data We Do NOT Collect

• Name, email address, phone number
• Location data
• Contacts, photos, or device files
• Advertising identifiers
• Scan history (stored locally only)

4. Server Communication

The app communicates with our server to:

• Retrieve product scores and company information
• Submit research requests for unknown barcodes
• Validate subscription status (via Google Play)

All communication is limited to the minimum data required (barcodes, purchase tokens).

5. Third-Party Services

• Google Play Billing: Subscription purchases are processed entirely by Google. We only receive a validation token. See Google Play Privacy Policy.
• AI Research: Product research is performed by an AI agent that searches publicly available news and corporate sources. No user data is passed to the AI agent — only the barcode number.

6. Data Retention

• Server-side: Product data, company data, and research results are stored indefinitely as they constitute our public product database.
• Device-side: Scan history can be deleted by the user at any time via the app.

7. Your Rights (GDPR)

As an EU-based service, you have the right to:

• Access any data we hold about you (we hold none personally identifiable)
• Request deletion of any data
• Lodge a complaint with the Baden-Württemberg Data Protection Authority (LfDI Baden-Württemberg)

8. Children's Privacy

Votello does not knowingly collect data from children under 16.

9. Changes

We will update this policy as the app evolves. Significant changes will be noted in the Play Store update notes.
